Comments on Draft SGEIS on Gas Drilling

The public comment period on the NYS Department of Environmental of Conservation draft Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement for horizontal drilling and high-volume hydraulic fracturing to develop the Marcellus Shale has been extended to December 31, 2009. The DEC is offering four ways in which to submit comments. Comments may be provided at one of the scheduled public hearings. The DEC has created an on line submission system which will allow you to write comments and tag them to your areas of concern at http://www.dec.ny.gov/cfmx/extapps/SGEISComments/. Attachments can be included. Comments may be emailed to dmnsgeis@gw.dec.state.ny.us. Finally, written comments may be sent to: Attn: dSGEIS Comments, Bureau of Oil & Gas Regulation, NYSDEC Division of Mineral Resources, 625 Broadway, Third Floor, Albany, NY 12233-6500.

Ask Governor to Extend DSGEIS Comment Period

The 90-day public comment period for the DEC's draft SGEIS is far too short for an informed review of this 800+ page document. The DEC has stated that they can only extend the comment period for the DSGEIS at the Governor's request. We are asking the governor to extend the comment period to March 1, 2010.
