The Rochester Regional Group of the Sierra Club hosts several important committees. Each has responsibilities in our organization and we always need volunteers to help. Check the description of the committees below and contact that committee which best suits your abilities.
Global Warming/Energy Committee: Work to promote solutions to global warming using current and cutting-edge technology that will reduce our use of fossil fuels.
Wetlands Committee: We work to educate and enlist the public in protecting and restoring the quality of our area’s waters and wetlands.
Clean Air/Clean Water Committee: Join with the Sierra Club's Clean Air Program in our efforts to protect the basic right of clean air for all Americans.
Population/Sustainability Committee: Population growth affects the environment. We work to slow that growth and its impacts by promoting voluntary family planning and by encouraging the public to advocate for women and girls' access to basic rights, including health care and education.
Political Action Committee: Preserve the environment through nonpartisan grassroots political action. The principal goals of the program are: (1) to elect candidates who will support and promote environmental protection, (2) to raise public awareness about environmental issues and elevate the priority of these issues for decision-makers, (3) to encourage Club members and other environmentalists to participate in the political process, (4) to advance the Club's conservation agenda by building relationships with legislators and other elected officials, and (5) to strengthen the Sierra Club as an organization.
Conservation Committee: Duties of the Conservation Committee: Provide leadership, direction and guidance on conservation issues for the group. Oversee conservation committee activities to ensure that all needed tasks are accomplished, including delegation of responsibilities to committees and 1other chapter leaders. Identify conservation issues needing attention, and assist chapter or group leaders to develop conservation priorities and campaign plans.
Great Lakes Committee - To research and catalogue regional information for Lake Ontario, for the following categories of information: Habitat/Species Great Lakes Monitoring & Information, Toxics Reduction, Invasive Species, Sustainable Development, Coastal Health, Non-Point Source Pollution, and Restoration AOC Areas of Concern
Outings Committee: Sierra Club Outings welcomes diversity among its trip participants, and has made a strong effort to offer trips suited to individuals with a wide range of abilities and interests to join us in our exploration and enjoyment of the wilderness.
Membership Committee When you join or give to the Sierra Club you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to preserve irreplaceable wildlands, save endangered and threatened wildlife, and protect this fragile environment we call home. You can be sure that your voice will be heard through congressional lobbying and grassroots action on the environmental issues that matter to you most.
